A Review of the Globe Trekker Year Book

By Rob Atherton

For an adventurous type of traveller, the rest of the world simply is your oyster these days. Just about no part of the earth is left untouched but tourists in need of adventure and something new. I even heard of somebody from New Zealand who had travelled to Iraq because he did not presume it was as treacherous as the mass media was reporting. Fortunately for him, he was plucked to safety by a British Army patrol.

However, you really don't need to head to areas much like Iraq for adventure travel, there are lots of other less hazardous areas in the world. Nevertheless, it is actually quite challenging to make your mind up where to go when looking into travelling so owning a publication like the Globe Trekker Year Book is a useful resource to have.

The book is small and light in weight hence if you want to take it off with you, its not going to take up much room or weight allowance. Globe Trekker is also a resource of data you can rely upon as from the 1990s, they have been voyaging round the globe creating TV recordings of numerous locations, rituals and events.

The Globe Trekker Year Book is very well designed for the traveller on the lookout for ideas. It details festivals from across the entire world by calendar month so if you are seeking to visit someplace in July, you can just flick to that segment and see what is happening. The book doesn't go into festivals in much detail yet its a starting point for you to investigate your getaway. For example, among the events for July is the Roswell UFO Festival in New Mexico, USA. Hence if aliens are your thing, you know where to go in July. There are even some internet websites to help you begin your research. The sections also have a simple recipe from one of the destinations talked about so you can head into your kitchen and get a flavour of your holiday destination just before you depart. At the end of the guide is a listing of TV stations and social media internet sites such as Facebook and YouTube where you can have access to Globe Trekker TV.

Hence, if you are planning a journey and are looking for a certain amount of inspiration, the Globe Trekker Year Book is a very good place to begin with recommendations from the Notting Hill Carnival in London, the Oktoberfest in Munich, a motorbike roadtrip in Vietnam and a great deal more.
