Snowshoes For Fun And Adventure

By Robert Jensen

Snowshoeing is quickly becoming a favorite winter activity for lovers of the outdoors. It's a fun and healthy way to get out and enjoy the snow. You can snowshoe just about anywhere -- in the woods, on a trail or near a cross-country trail.

One of the benefits of snowshoeing is that it's a great way to get fit and stay in shape. It's an easy and affordable way to get out on your best trail that you might be using as a hiking trail during the rest of the year. Plus, it's really inexpensive and super simple to learn how to do.

Snowshoes are stable and you shouldn't have any problem learning how to walk around with them. Walking a mile in them will provide a great cardiovascular workout along with strengthening your legs. Plus, very few people get hurt using them. They are a relatively low-impact exercise for your joints and you don't hear about users falling off of them, sliding down a ski slope or running into a tree.

How do they snowshoes work? They work by distributing the weight of the user over an area larger than the person's foot by increasing the surface area that makes contact with the snow. This helps the user to not just sink past the surface of the snow. Snowshoe manufacturers call this a snowshoe's flotation factor.

Snowshoes all look somewhat the same, but there are some important differences. The style and model that will be right for you is dependent on your body weight, what type of snowshoeing you do and what kind of snow you will be in (wet or dry or in-between).

Besides their snowshoes, snowshoers often use trekking poles to help them keep their balance on the snow. Poles are used for added balance and to help transfer weight. These poles are really useful when descending slopes as they provide an increase in balance for a more controlled descent down the hill.

If you don't want to end up carrying extra boots with you, don't worry about buying special boots to use with your new snowshoes. A good pair of insulated hiking boots will serve you well and are all you really need. Make sure you bring your boots with you to the store to make sure they will work before you buy.

One last thing to consider picking up to go with your snowshoes is a carrying and storage bag. You can use this bag to store your shoes during the off season and use it to carry them to the hiking area. You can often get them included as part of a package deal.

If you are going to be heading out into the snowy wilderness, make sure you let somebody know exactly where it is you are going to go to (just in case you don't come back). Be extra cautious in regions you don't know and don't try to take on too much at once.

A good pair of quality snowshoes can help almost any person enjoy the cold winter months more. - 39815

Guide To Tipping Practices Around The World

By Adriana Noton

If you are an avid world traveler or are planning to take a trip to another country, one part of the trip that can be confusing is how much should be given as a 'tip.' It can be confusing figuring out how much of a tip to give for good service and you also want to make sure that you don't end up leaving a big tip for bad service, especially when considering the foreign exchange. To help you figure out the best tipping practices, the following is a guide to tipping around the world.

Canada: When visiting Canada, it is suitable to leave a tip of 15 - 20 percent at a restaurant, 10 - 20 percent at a bar, and 10 - 20 per cent for taxi drivers. At establishments such as coffee shops, there is normally a tip jar by the cash register where customers can drop a few coins in the jar. For hotels, it is appropriate to tip maids at $1 - $2 per day, the concierge a small amount at check out, and room service at about 15%.

United States: When visiting the US, it is appropriate to leave 20% at restaurants, 20% at bars, pocket change at a cashier tip jar, and at a take out restaurant, between $2 and $5. For taxi drivers, it is standard to leave $2 for a $5- fare and $3 for a $10- fare. Any higher taxi fare, the tip is about 20%. For hotels, tipping is as follows: maids: $5 to $10/night, room service: about $20%, and concierge: $10 for making any arrangements such as reservations, and $5 for providing information.

Mexico: For restaurants in Mexico, sometimes the bill includes the tip. If it does not include the tip, 10% - 15% is appropriate. At a bar, 10% of the total or $1 to $2 per round of drinks is suitable. For hotels, tips include: bellmen $1-$2 per bag, concierge $5 - $10 for making arrangements, maid $3 - $5 per day, valet $1 - $2, and a taxi driver is about a few dollars.

Caribbean: For all inclusive resorts and hotels, the price will include the tip. For restaurants, it is about 10%, and bars about 15% of the total bill or $1 per drink. For taxi drivers, tipping is about $1 - $2 and more for holidays, Sundays, and late night fares. For hotels, maids are about $2 per day, valets are a few dollars, and bellmen are about $1-$2 per bag.

Europe: Many European countries do not expect tips. In France, a service charge is included, however, for really good service, it is suitable to add a 10 -15% tip. As well, it is fine to leave change at a caf. In the UK and Ireland, a service charge will be included at hotels and restaurants, however, for really great service, you can add 10%. In the UK and Ireland, people do not tip in pubs. Tipping is not expected in Germany, Portugal, Italy, and Spain; however, 10% can be added for great service. For taxi drivers, it is appropriate to tip about 10%. For European hotels, it is suitable to tip two Euros for maids and porters.

Every country has its own criteria regarding tipping. It is always helpful and prevents misunderstandings when you know what to tip so that you can have a relaxing and fun vacation. Remember, the people waiting on you work hard, and the tip you provide will likely help their family. - 39815

Buying Used Woodworking Equipment For Dummies

By Ted Mcgrath

Have you been working as a woodworking craftsman for ages or have you started recently? Whether you're an experienced craftsman or a total rookie you might want to save some money and you can do it buy purchasing used woodworking equipment instead of new tools. It's possible to save plenty of money but it's important to choose the right equipment and to buy the things from the right place.

Who to buy used tools from

It's definitely a good idea to try to save some money by purchasing used woodworking equipment but it's also important to not buy the first used tools you can find. You will be able to find plenty of sellers on the net and you will also be able to meet many sellers if you start visiting flea markets, but you should keep in mind that some used woodworking equipment can be a waste of money instead of a good investment.

It's a big difference between the tools you need if you have the woodworking craft as a profession and the tools you need if you just have woodworking as a hobby. You need to be extra careful if you're a craftsman who has this as a profession. You can't afford to buy worthless tools that can't be used for your woodworking projects and that's why you should only buy your used woodworking equipment from shops who sells used items as a profession. They will be able to meet your demands and you will get what you need and look for. Everyone will be happy with such a deal since you will save money and they will make money.

How old tools can I buy

You might wonder how old tools you can buy without getting worthless equipment. The age doesn't really matter since some machines and tools can be reconditioned. This means the motor might be replaced and that will make an old machine almost as good as a new one. It's not a good idea to buy a 15 year old machine with the original motor left in it though. That means you will throw away your money and that's probably the last thing you want.

Try to find some used woodworking equipment that will be yours for a low cost. Don't stare yourself blind at the price though, the quality is the most important thing after all and that's what you should focus on. - 39815

Join Affordable Vacation Within Your Reach Right Now

By Sharon Hart

Are you feeling like you need to get away? Do you find yourself waking up each morning dreading the reality of another day like the one before? When this feeling sets in, we forget how to enjoy the little pleasures in life, such as serenity, excitement, and just having a good time. Nothing seems simple these days.

Many families have given up on the prospect of going on a vacation, thanks to the dismal economic climate. Even just a weekend excursion can be quite pricey to certain locations. However, if you are able to think outside of the box, and give up some of the amenities that you may have previously expected on a vacation, you will be able to take that family vacation and get it to fit in your allotted budget. There are extravagant vacations that are now available to individuals of various income ranges.

Will there ever be enough time leftover after your strenuous work schedule, for you to enjoy your own fun in the sun?

It seems like you work and work to ensure that your family has everything that they need, and still end up needing to work even more to keep up. Then there are the emergencies that crop up, and all of a sudden, the money that you have managed to put away, has to be used in the blink of an eye to deal with these unexpected occurrences.

I can only speak for myself, but it's clear to me that people don't take the time to enjoy each other. We forget the importance of enjoying our time on this earth that God created especially for our pleasure. We forget to take time out to simply rest, catch our breath, and reflect on our lives.

When you die, are you going to regret that you worked so much? You might!

Try experiencing life at a more leisurely pace. Just think about what that could mean for you. What if? you keep asking yourself. Life is certainly full of "what if's." Far more "what if's" than there should be. I don't like the notion of "what if's" in my life. What if I never have the chance to walk along lovely white beaches and taste the fresh fruits and melons of a tropical paradise, watch the palm trees sway gently in the breeze and enjoy the luxury of room service? That world is out there waiting, but will time stand still while I'm full of doubt and indecision? On the day that my nose is no longer to the grindstone, will I still have time to see the amazing sights of this world?

Even though the dollar doesn't stretch as far as it used to, ordinary people like you and me will continue to struggle with the traps that make up "the way things are." But we know the true answer now, and we've learned that there's no reason to keep our knowledge to ourselves. It's time to share with the people we care about. Just think.... even people we haven't met yet could improve their lives if they knew about our little secret. - 39815

Are All Human Beings Capable Of Extraordinary Measures?

By Mari Schultz

Extraordinary Measures is a movie which tells the story of how a real life couple went to great lengths to ensure their children had access to either a cure for their illness or the best possible health care. In the movie the couple in question gamble all they have on financing research for a cure into a genetic disease affecting two of their children. But is this an uncommon course of action? Is it not the case that anyone with children would go to extreme lengths to ensure their survival and quality of life?

Without a doubt most parents would be devastated to learn their children had inherited a degenerative disease. Most parents would take any steps possible to ensure their child received the best treatment available. However, not every parent has the confidence to challenge systems designed to keep the cog in the wheel so to speak.

It is probably no coincidence the movie was released in January of this year. The same Month Barack Obama was inaugurated as President of the United States. His Presidency heralded an era of hope in American History. The movie released in the inaugural month symbolizes this new age of hope. For American society the movie represents their perceptions of the American way of life for example battling on in the face of adversity.

Human beings resilience, their ability to bounce back, is a much underestimated trait. Without resilience human beings would not have survived this long. The main theme of the movie demonstrates the resilience of families faced with difficult situations and having to make hard choices. It is not about finding a cure it is about finding humanity.

The thorny debate surrounding the health care reform bill the new President hopes to push through is also evident in the narrative of the movie. The role of the Doctor, played by Harrison Ford, is to let people know that despite his expertise taking him to the top of his field he is nonetheless still just a human being with faults. He is trying his best, his best might not be good enough but it is all he has to offer.

Americans do not hold a monopoly on overcoming daily challenges and winning through despite the odds. This is common among most cultures. Across the globe people triumph over tragedy and adversity and go on to create hope even in the hardest of hearts.

Although the movie looks at the notion of hope from an extreme case there are examples of hope alive and well and living in the apparent mundane and ordinary. Hope is found wherever individuals and or communities strive and thrive despite expectations to the contrary. To continue to hope despite knowing the desired outcome is not going to change may seem foolhardy in some eyes. However, continuing to fight on brings with it a different idea of the meaning of the word hope. A journey involving hope implies little certainty. What becomes apparent in this type of journey is the human capacity for compassion, generosity and empathy.

In times of crisis people the world over take Extraordinary Measures to protect children, family life, community and society in general. Taking steps to look after those nearest and dearest without hurting anyone else in the process is to be applauded. A new era in the White House seems to have brought with it a certain amount of hope among Americans for a fairer future. - 39815

What To Consider When Choosing An Airline Miles Credit Card

By Shannon Hilson

It goes without saying that an airline miles credit card is an incredibly efficient way to save money, manage your credit, and cash in on incredibly useful travel rewards. Thanks to frequent flyer credit cards, consumers everywhere are enjoying discounted (or even free) airline tickets, as well as traveler's insurance, help with car rental services, and much more.

You know you want to get in on the action soon, but with all the choices available on the market today, it's tough to know how to zero in on exactly the right credit rewards program for you. However, if you know specifically what to look for ahead of time, it's much easier to make a smart, informed decision that will be sure to deliver the type of benefits you're looking to receive from your card.

Balance the Benefits Against the Expenses

All airline miles cards are going to come attached with a unique set of benefits. These are going to include not only your free points earned toward airline mileage, but also other perks such as 24-hour concierge services, valuable insurance programs, and potential discounts on everything from hotel accommodations to car rental services. Some cards even offer you the opportunity to earn double or triple points on specific types of travel purchases.

However, it's important to remember that each airline card is going to come along with a package of fees as well. Don't forget to take into consideration each card's annual interest rate and annual percentage fee when making your decision. Also make sure you check the card's terms of service. Do you need to spend a certain amount annually on your card to really get the most of it? What other kinds of restrictions come along with the program? Weigh these points against the benefits carefully and you'll be better able to determine which card best fits your lifestyle and spending habits.

Examine Your Traveling Habits

When it comes to the way you travel, what are your regular habits? Is there a specific airline you prefer to fly with or do you typically opt for whichever airline has the best rates and flight schedule at the time? If you stick to just one particular airline, check and see which frequent flyer card programs that airline offers and consider those first. If you prefer to keep your options open, consider applying for a rewards card through a bank instead. Bank-sponsored reward programs offer a much greater degree of flexibility when it comes to cashing in your earned points if this is the way you travel.

You also want to take a look at how frequently you travel. Before ultimately filling out an airline miles credit application, do the math on how long it would take you to earn enough airline points to be able to fund your next trip through your current credit use. Also consider the following questions. Do the miles have expiration dates? How many miles do you need to accumulate before they're eligible for redemption in the first place? Will you be able to transfer the miles to someone else if needed or desired? Can you redeem them on items other than air tickets - gift cards, restaurant visits, and so forth? Knowing the answers to these questions will further help you determine whether or not a particular credit program is right for you.

Ultimately speaking, finding the right airline miles credit card for you is all about research, research, research. The more in the know you are in regards to all the different programs out there, the better informed your decision will be. Don't be afraid to shop around until you find a deal that fits! - 39815

Disneys Oceans Released To Theater In 2010

By Norman Kline

Disneynature Studios followed up the 2009 release of the ground breaking nature film "Earth" with the 2010 movie Disneys Oceans. Both were released in the United States on Earth Day which celebrated it's fortieth year in 2010. This movie is an emotional and thrilling peek into the underwater world.

The film was directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud. It was narrated by British actor Pierce Brosnan, who is famous for his role as special agent James Bond in the 007 movie series. He is also an avid environmentalist. The movie was produced by Romain LeGrand. Disney Channel teen stars Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas recorded the hit song "Make A Wave" for the film's soundtrack. It entices young fans to answer the call to action to be proactive when it comes to making a difference on preservation.

Ninety percent of the world's water comes from the ocean. Nearly three fourths of the earth's surface is water. This movie goes where no other has gone before exploring deep beneath the surface of the sea. The movie is filled with never before seen images of animals, plants, and their behaviors.

The production of this film took an excruciating amount of time. Two full years went into just the preproduction and planning. Then there were four years of filming. Over seventy five trips were made to destinations that have mostly never before been seen let alone filmed. In the four years of filming, the team amassed over 480 hours of footage. That would take twenty days straight to watch! It took another year after filming was complete to edit the footage down to the length of a regular feature film.

The directors said their inspiration for the film is to answer the question "What is an ocean?". Their vision was to capture the magic of the undersea life and show exactly all the different aspects of the sea. They wanted to provide a non-censured vision for all to see. They were able to show the sea's beauty, fierceness, and mysteries all in one movie.

An important aspect of the film is the damage mankind has done and continues to do each day by continuing harmful practices. An obvious practice that is detrimental to not just the water but earth and air is pollution. The population has become so dense that there is also the problem of over developed land. Another harmful practice is the greediness of over fishing in areas. Poaching is also a serious offense against humankind. It's no secret that water is one essential resource that sustains all life, and without it, the world would not exist.

They also felt it was important to show how sea life can bounce back after being damaged. They found several remote locations that were clearly inspiring by proving that there is life underwater that refuses to give up. It's strong and resilient and won't be destroyed easily.

This movie will take the viewer on a heart warming and thrilling journey. Disneys Oceans is an excellent teaching aid and inspiring movie. The viewer can feel what it's like to swim alongside dolphins and sharks, study the intricate coral reef, and play with the majestic and endangered polar bears. The high definition footage is bound to leave a lasting impression on all who see it. - 39815

The Attraction Of Barcelona Beaches Information

By Green Hill

The locals are very appreciative and tolerant of kids in all sorts of public places - not at all worried about noise!

As there are far too many interesting things to do with the whole family in Barcelona, I will mention just a couple to get you started:

Gaud Architecture

Walking along the attractive, tree-lined, wide avenues of central Barcelona where many of Antoni Gaud's buildings are situated will prove to be an interesting and fun experience. Starting with his masterpiece, the Sagrada Famlia, a tall, unique cathedral with colorful dotted spires that resemble modern candles will appeal to a child's imagination. Apart from seeing the fascinating interiors of the building, it also boasts modernistic statues on the outside as well as modern stained glass windows.

To see another fascinating Gaud building go to No 92 Passeig de Grcia where you'll find La Pedrera (quarry) which is both an office and apartment block. The outside is built with an uneven grey stone, like freshly quarried stone, which is framed with attractive and intricate wrought-iron balconies. Temporary exhibitions of all kinds are held on the lower floors of the building. A tour of the building includes one of the apartments on permanent display, which surprises with curves and unexpected corners everywhere. But it is the famous roof that will most delight parents and kids alike. The roof has giant chimneys that look like multi-colored medieval knights. From up top you can enjoy a rare view of the centre of the city.

Parents would probably want to see more of the amazing Gaud structures but kids would prefer going to a park and for that the Parc Gell is a must. It is located about 4 km north of Plaa Catalunya, the centre of the city. Take some snacks or a picnic to spend some leisurely time in this captivating park which was landscaped and designed by Gaud. From Carrer d'Olot you'll enter through two fairytale gate-houses, and follow the steps up which is guarded by the famous mosaic lizard. This is the start of literally hours of exploration that can be done of all the interesting structures and corners of the Parc Gell where Gaud gave absolute free reign to his passion for natural architectural forms.

La Rambla

Back in the city centre, another day of sightseeing for the family could start at Plaa Catalunya and the beginning of the famous La Rambla pedestrian walkway which extends all the way down to the statue of Columbus near the port. It has busy streets and shops on either side and many vendors with stalls that sells all kinds of things on the sides of the walkway, including birds - the live ones. It is popular amongst tourists who rent chairs to watch performing street artists, the painted mime artists, as well as people watching - which is guaranteed to be interesting!

Barcelona Beaches, Old Port and Pleasure Cruises

Having reached the bottom of La Rambla you'll be almost at the port and the nearest beach of Barceloneta. The possibilities for having fun at the city beachfront are endless. You can simply relax, tan and play on one of the well-kept beaches during the long summer months, or take a short or long day cruise on one of the pleasure boats, stroll along the beach promenade eating ice cream, listen to some street musicians, or have a drink or meal at any of the many excellent restaurants along the way - altogether many choices.

Barcelona Aquarium and 3-D Cinema

The kids will love L'Aqurium de Barcelona which isn't far from there. The aquarium has a long underwater tunnel where you can see many kinds of amazing fish and plantlife. The shop at the aquarium has a special and unique variety of gifts on offer. Another attraction in the same Maremagnum building is the Imax Port Vell 3-D cinema, where adventure and wildlife films are screened daily from 12 noon till 10 at night.

Quick Review Of The Movie Deadfall Trail

By Bobbie Chapman

Directed by Roze and starring a spectacular cast of lesser known actors, Deadfall Trail is the psychodrama horror movie that movie buffs have been patiently waiting for. The film was shot in Tempe, Arizona. The lead roles in the movie are played by Cavin Gray Schneider, Shane Dean, and Slade Hall.

Along with directing the film, Roze also co-wrote and produced this movie. The film is eerily similar to the hit movie Deliverance. The amount of violence, profanity, graphic images, and nudity all make this film worthy of its R-rating.

The movie starts off with Julian, Paul, and John, the three main characters traveling to Arizona's Kaibab National Forest on a three week camping trip that is solely about survival in the wilderness. This is not your average camping trip. The requirements of this trip are simple. Each boy can only bring a simple plastic trash bag, one camping or hunting knife, and only one bottle of water to drink. The only way to survive for three weeks is to completely depend on their strength, their instincts, their wits, and how they are able to live off of their surroundings.

The personalities of the three young men immediately emerge at the beginning of the trip which is the beginning of the movie. Paul has never experienced anything like this and is the most inexperienced of the group. Julian is bothered by this. He has done similar trips with John and the idea of a new person on the trip does not appeal to him. John has done hikes and survival trips before and begins to show signs of being the leader of the group. He is confident that both of his friends will be able to handle the tasks set forth.

The start of the trip goes just as planned. Despite his lack of experience, Paul is very confident in his own abilities and often puts the group of young men in awkward and potentially dangerous situations. However, they are not so serious that the group cannot handle them. Even so, Julian's anger and irritation towards Paul increases while John tries to keep the peace and help everyone remain calm.

Paul has only agreed to risk his life on a three week survival hike in the desert for one reason. That reason is a small cactus plant called peyote. When ingested, the effects of the plant resemble psychedelic drug. It also makes a person thirsty. Because they only have three bottles of water, Julian and John urge Paul to wait to take the drug until they can find a better water source. Paul does not heed his friends' advice.

As with any good horror movie, the situation becomes disastrous. The boys actually ingest the peyote, setting of a sequence of rather cryptic and crazy events. It is here where the movie actually begins to move at a much faster and more intense pace. The characters become more developed and begin to really captivate the audience. Viewers will be anxious to see who the ultimate survivor is going to be, if there is one at all.

One can argue that Deadfall Trail is not ever going to be considered to be Hollywood classic horror movie. However, no one can say that it is not a good movie. The script is written extremely well and the actors are engaging. The characters are developed throughout the movie and it certainly has an interesting plot. This movie is sure to become a fan favorite among teenagers and young adults. - 39815

Ocean's Strange Fauna

By Stacey Nichols

The world underneath the ocean contains millions of unknown monsters. These creatures are not monsters with scary appearances but are named monsters because of the huge size of their kind. Deep into the ocean, everything is pretty much dark. This is because light cannot penetrate into such depth. There is also shortage of oxygen deep into the ocean. Some animals have the ability to create their own light. They do this to attract their prey and keep off predators. Apart from lacking light and oxygen, underwater fish and plants have adapted themselves to these conditions. We may notice that underwater plants lack the usual green color due to absence of sunlight for photosynthesis. This alien world contains endless wonders we are yet to see.

Scientists have tried their best to bring these creatures on surfaces but they failed each time they tried to do so. Many questioning minds have made efforts to capture the beauty of different species of the ocean. Underwater photography has become the hobby of many people. Underwater photographers use a scuba digital camera to achieve better results. Underwater housings for digital cameras are other useful practices for perfect capture. Underwater devices are waterproof and specially designed to view species with all details clearly. Not all cameras are waterproof; one should not test it in a fully filled bath tub without reading the user manual.

We still dwell into a world with many unexplored places having unseen monsters. In these places scientists dare to find countless monstrous animals with unending facts. Whenever scientists find a rare variety of ocean animal, they make a full study of that and classify them accordingly. Then they place them into different classes and types. Within the next few years, other varieties of fishes and plants will be added to the world directory.

Today, lots of sea shore facilities are set up to show us the different sea creatures. Modern technology is used to detect creatures underneath are used to find out if there is a monstrous animal below. Some of these devices include underwater robots, submersible video cameras, echo- sounding devices etc. Recently scientists have countless analyzed data to share with us and other materials to keep them busy for years.

Since marine life is very important to our existence as human beings. we should be responsible. It is our prime duty to take care of them. - 39815

Iron Chef: Japan's Culinary Sensation Takes America By Storm

By Ross Everett

One of the most entertaining spectacles on television can be found every week on the Food Network. The concept of the program sounds like a twisted dream"prominent chefs from all over the world go head to head in competitions more suited for All Japan Pro Wrestling. That's exactly the premise of Iron Chef, which is hands down the most compelling cooking show on television. Even non-gourmands will enjoy the fast paced competition and the near incomprehensibility of the show.

The story behind the show goes something like this--there's this rich dude, MC Kaga who summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Needless to say, a TV studio wouldn't suffice for such a production: the kitchen stadium is in Kaga's castle. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese). The summoned culinary challenger picks which Iron Chef he wants to take a crack at and the contest begins. The show was originally created by the Fuji TV network in the Japan, and the original Japanese title translates literally to The Iron Men of Cooking.

But wait, there's more"the chefs just don't pull out the best dishes from their repertoire. There's a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics straight out of a KISS concert. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

At that point, the chefs have an hour to prepare a seven course meal, served to a discerning panel of B-List celebrities that usually include a couple of 'TV Presenters' and a 'fortune teller'. The judges rate and discuss each course and declare a winner. Its a great honor to beat one of the Iron Chefs, though its no easy feat.

What really brings the show together is the announcin--"though I'm sure it loses something having been dubbed from Japanese. There's a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange juxtaposition between cooking shows and wrestling even more complete.

The dishes that the chefs come up with are always pretty amazing, creative and complex--if not always appetizing. Some of their creations look yummy, but a dessert with a compulsory use of carp isnt exactly my cup of green tea. Nonetheless, the creative process and intensity of the competitors is amazing. Even as challenging as this is, the requirement that a theme ingredient be used in every component of the meal really ups the ante.

The Food Network has recently begun production of a native grown version called 'Iron Chef America'. It has a similar format, but really loses a lot from the Fuji TV original. - 39815

Stonewashed Jeans - Awesome Gospel Band Upcoming Tour

By James Cameroone

Stonewash Feet Fagault is my favorite gospel band. They have 44 Mir Albums and their last album "Jesus Built My Hyundai" went double Mir in just 36 hours. The band is great. Vocals, guitar and drums. And they've done it the same way for over a decade. The dreadlocked lead singer Greta Grables wears stonewashed jeans cut off at the ankles to reveal black fishnets. She sings like Etta James with an explosive diarrhea problem. Alternating between smooth and gassy!

The guitar and banjo player Herbie Hendrix rocks a Stonewashed jeans jacket. His licks are so freaking legendary its insane. His boogie-woogie style is absolutely second to none. Except maybe Conan O' Brien's. Hebert also recently overcame a crippling addiction to industrial solvents brought on by the tragic murder suicide of his puggle Whoopie Barkberg who savagely tore apart his Himalayan cat Captain Fluffinstein and then ran into traffic on the 401. The ballad "Himalayan Meeooouch" was indeed inspired by this tragic and harrowing incident.

The drummer is best known for his zany line of K-Mart Brand glassware. Lupe Divales. If you need a man to keep time or run a 3rd world sweatshop to make glassware for K-Mart, Lupe's the man. Its like he's got a metronome instead of a brain. You can always tell when Lupe's gonna rock cuz he'll bring his unique Stonewashed jeans covered drum set into town. The fabric on the drum shells creates a perfect dampening so his beats are delivered more crisply than other drummers'.

Stonewash Feet Fagault isn't all Stonewashed jeans and hype though. They have sold out arenas all over Eastern Europe, full of metal head, God fearing zealots- the only kind of people I run with. But this summer they are coming to America for the very first time. Dates have been booked in Memphis, Little Rock, Jackson, Montgomery, Amarillo, East Dillon and Newark. Greta, Herbert and Lupe got their work visas and have rented a 2009 Honda Odyssey. But they are still looking for affordable housing or places to crash in each locale. That's where you come in!

If you live in one of the above-listed cities and you have a washing machine that can accommodate Stonewashed jeans and other band accoutrements, then contact Stonewash Feet Fagault at +34 090 8432 8989. They won't drink all the beer in you fridge. They're a Gospel band. You might consider not having any industrial solvents around though.

In exchange for lodging and care of their Stonewashed jeans SFF promises you a copy their three song EP "The Lord Loves Us More Than Them." This EP was previously only available in Latvia, but thanks to the band's recent and wondrous discovery of bit torrents, SSF will burn you a copy if you can hook them up with a place to stay and you have a CD burner. They just might even autograph it. - 39815

Like Kevin Smith? Check Out Cop Out!

By Aurelia Coffey

So Cop Out was not written by Kevin Smith and that makes his followers very skeptical as it was his very first movie that he directed and not written. And it is also his very first movie produced by a major movie studio. But many of you true followers can still catch those glimpses that make his movies definitely original.

So you take two different actors, completely opposite of each other, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Surprisingly their chemistry works well together as they both play cops in New York City. And of course, they have a hilarious and unusual way of working together. Mix all that together with some really great comedy, they did a very great job with this movie. If you watch carefully, it looks as if Bruce Willis is trying to contain himself from laughing so hard.

We already know that the actors are playing cops as the main characters of the movie. They are placed on suspension for not catching a criminal and during that pursuit causing a large neighborhood shootout. Being suspended for a month with out pay, Jimmy, Bruce Willis' character, is short of cash to pay for his only daughters wedding, and decides to sell a baseball card worth a lot of money. While he is taking that card to be looked at, he is then robbed by Sean William Scott's character, Dave. Sean William Scott is well known for his parts in the American Pie movies and he definitely keeps his comedy up in this movie as well.

And guess who else is in this one for all those di-hard Kevin Smith fans? Jason Lee, he plays the new husband to Jimmy's ex wife. Of course he plays the perfect scumbag as usual, tramping in where his nose does not belong, and offers to pay for the wedding and take credit for it, if Jimmy can not come up with the money.

With all the major events going on in the film and twists that you could never expect, somehow the two police officers end up getting mixed up with a huge drug ring. And with out spoiling the entire ending of the film, you will have to see the movie to know what happens next. Just think, how does one go from selling a baseball card, to a drug ring?

For those Kevin Smith followers, you can still see the typical Smith jokes and familiar tones in the movie. From the hilarious jokes of sexual nature, the way it was filmed and even the music chosen for the film, it has the same feel as all of his other cult classic films. And his reasoning for directing the film was classic, he felt that it was as if the two cops were married but not and it reminded him of Dante and Randal from his hit film Clerks.

This movie grossed about 53 million on a 37 million budget, so it is not a very huge blockbuster but one that is really worth seeing. It was released in theaters in the United States on February 26, 2010 and over in the United Kingdom in May 2010. It just recently came out on DVD as well as pay per view for those cable viewers.

If you are wanting a hilarious, shoot'em up, out of the ordinary cop movie, seeing Cop Out is a must. It runs for 107 minutes total and it will be 107 minutes you will not regret. - 39815

Techniques To Sing Higher

By Jacaranda Flagg

If you've been following our blog posts, you've probably expanded your vocal range and now wants to sing higher. You've probably find that you cannot sustain those high notes even though you've worked so hard. Or it could be that your voice is very fatigued because you're singing a song piece that has a lot of high notes compared to simply hitting one high note and coming back down.

For both scenarios, tessitura is the problem and not just range. Tessitura is your comfortable range, in which you can sing the notes consistently, on-pitch, and without strain. It is also known as the average pitch range of a song or choral part.

Many mezzo-sopranos, for example, can sing an occasional high C at the extreme of their range. But their tessitura is probably an octave to half an octave below that: perhaps from the A above middle C to the second A above middle C. They will experience vocal strain and fatigue if they try to sing a piece in which the tessitura is from high "G" to high "C".

You run the risk of straining your voice even though you are able to sing higher than your natural tessitura. You can choose songs within the range of your tessitura. The key then, is to know where that is, know your own tessitura.

It really is possible to raise your tessitura. Again, Yes, but it takes work. The key is breath support, combined with upper resonance. If you try to sing higher notes from your throat without adequate breath support, the result is vocal strain. Over an extended period of time, you could cause lasting damage.

To sing higher notes takes more breath energy that to sing lower ones. You need to use all of your breath muscles--diaphragm, abdominal, spinals, and intercostals--and fully expand your midsection with each inhalation. As you exhale, keep everything expanded except your abdominal, which will control the rate of breath flow.

Focus on your "head voice" or upper resonance once you are breathing properly. Think of the tone as being vertical rather than horizontal, and imagine the sound coming from your forehead and the top of your head. You can compare to like riding an elevator, with your breath as the mechanism that makes the elevator ascend.

You should feel the vibration in your sinuses and the roof of your mouth (soft palate). Keep your mouth horizontally narrow but vertically tall inside. One voice teacher tells her students to imagine trying to swallow something unpleasant, opening the throat enough so that whatever it is won't touch the sides.

Don't try to force anything out from your tone, keep it light. Start with the yawn-slide or the vocal siren. For the yawn-slide, inhale and open your mouth as if to yawn, then exhale on "hoo" or "hee", starting at the top of your range and sliding rapidly all the way to the bottom. Try to start each successive one a bit higher.

The vocal siren is similar, except that it starts at the bottom of your range and goes up. Do it on a hum. As your breath support gets stronger, do the siren up and down several times on the same breath.

Another good exercise is the rapidly ascending and descending five-tone scale. Start in the middle of your range and use either the buzz (also called lip roll or bubble lips) or a vowel sound, such as "oo" or "ah". The pattern is do-re-mi-fa-so-fa-mi-re-do. Start the second pattern a half-step above the first and continue in that manner. Be sure to use good breath support.

With time and effort, you can raise your tessitura and sing higher notes more comfortably and easily. Just be patient, persistent, and realistic. - 39815

Some Esential Gear To Bring On A Boating Trip

By Adriana Noton

Esential gear to bring on a boating trip will vary depending on what kind of boat and activity is on the schedule. One person may never step aboard without a six pack of beer, while another wants full life support. However, some things are important enough to go on every type of excursion.

First a boating license is compulsory in Canada. Boats get wet. Wet boats are slippery. Every one on board should have real boating footwear. This does not mean tennis shoes, no matter how sporty. Modern boating shoes have carefully designed grips on the soles to make them non-slip even on smooth surfaces. For maintenance in marine climates, all boats are smooth and shiny, and are usually wet when moving, so this detail should not be overlooked.

Another safety precaution is using sun screen and reapplying it every few hours. Just wearing a hat is not enough to shield your face, since you may want to take it off to catch a cool breeze, or it may blow off; the sun's rays will bounce up off the water and all other reflective surfaces and reach you face even under a top shade. You may be out all through the midday hours, so select a high SPF in sunblocks and tanning creams. If you like natural protection, use diluted vitamin C in a spray bottle, take extra CoQ10, and use natural coconut oil on exposed skin.

What you wear will be a personal choice, as long as it is suited to the weather and the occasion. Rafting on white water will be chilly, since canyons may block the sun and the water is always cold. Wet suits can really help on mountain waters or anywhere in the fall and winter. Of course, cool clothes or bathing suits will be fine on a cruise or leisurely sail.

Boaters have learned from experience, however, that the sun doesn't always shine, so foul weather gear should be stowed somewhere on every vessel. Rain squalls on deep water and thunderstorms over the creeks and rivers can make you wet and cold in seconds. Waterproof gear can be simply a bright yellow shell or a fully lined rain suit, suitable for frostbite sailing and dedicated all-year fishermen.

For safety, you will want to have on hand a floating flashlight, a way to contact the shore or the folks that stayed on land, a first aid kit with band-aids (great for blisters, if for nothing more serious), lots of water for keeping hydrated, food because raw fish gets old fast, and polarized sunglasses. Sunlight is intensified on the water, so give your eyes the protection they need. Lip balm may also be very welcome after a while.

The list of other things that may be needed is long. Gloves might be a good idea if your hands are not hardened to a paddle or a fishing line. A personal flotation device of your own will undoubtedly fit better than one out of the locker. A strap to keep your glasses securely attached will be great if you lean too far over the side or happen to fall in. A portable, hook-on ladder will allow you to get back in the boat if you decide to jump overboard to cool off. Fishing tackle, a good book, a way to contact shore in emergencies, a radio for music and the weather report, towels, and even good friends can all be on the essential list.

Esential gear to bring on a boating trip is what you make it, once safety regulations are fulfilled and common sense appeased. Close your eyes and imagine being cut off from land, and see what you are going to miss. - 39815

Homemade Paintball Tanks In A Big Game

By Jerry Manuel

We all know the game of paint ball, but do we really? Since this popular war game came into being there has been a lot of developments and changes made to it. In fact, this is one of the games that the players can manipulate in any way they want. The actual game has one objective, and that is to not get shot, and to stay away from the paintball tanks - if there are any.

This is a game that you can enjoy with the entire family, and you do not need to stop there, because you can have as many people one a side as you can, and what is more, you can have as many side as you can. This means that you can have ten teams and just two people on a team, or 2 teams with 10 people on a team.

Now, as you can guess you will not be able to play paintball with paintball tanks in a small area. You will have to send the game to a forest or large field where all the bunkers and tanks etc can be placed easily.

If you have that many people you could also set up a real war scenario and maybe even play out one of the past world wars as a history lesson.

You will then be able to play whenever you like and you can choose the same or all different locations. It is better to rather go to a special paintball venue where you will get to hire the gear and pay a small game fee. You can take a certain number of people there with you and enjoy a real fun game.

You might have already guessed that a game like this cannot be played in a small back yard, and is better suited for a forest or a larger open field. Now, if all your have is a large open field with no tree or any other places to hide, you may want to look at buying a few paintball bunkers. - 39815
