A Good Synopsis Of The Film Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky

By Alfredo Ross

In May 2009, a film simply titled Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is dramatic exploration into the lives two of the world's most famous celebrities at that time. They are the eccentric Russian musician, Igor Stravinsky and the fabulous French fashion designer Coco Chanel.

This movie is a French film that is based on the novel written by Chris Greenhalgh in the year 2002. It is a fictional novel; however many feel that the novel and movie are fact based. The film is generally about the alleged affair between Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky that they engaged in while living in Paris, France in 1920.

This is also the same year that famous, Chanel No. 5 was created. 2009 was a big year for movies based on the life of the famed designer. That same year, Audrey Tautou starred in a film called Coco avant Chanel that was directed by Anne Fontaine. Coco avant Chanel was not as big of a success as this one.

This story is rather interesting. In Paris, France in 1913 is when the movie starts. The designer is attending the ballet, actually it is the premier of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. His production is extremely controversial and actually offends most of the audience.

The scores and choreography shocked the audience which, at the time, was more accustomed to demure classical ballet. However, Coco Chanel was not appalled by the ballet as most people were. She is intrigued, especially with Stravinsky rushes angrily out of the theater.

Seven years pass and Chanel and Stravinsky come in contact again. Coco Chanel has become a successful designer with a thriving business. She is mourning the death of her lover, Arthur "Boy" Capel when she meets Igor. Stravinsky has been forced to leave Russian after the Russian Revolution and has fled to France. The two are immediately attracted to one another.

Chanel offers Stravinsky and his family the use of her villa located on the outskirts of Paris. While he, his wife, and their children are living in the villa, Stravinsky and Chanel begin a closeted love affair. They have an intense passion for one another that shows in their work. Creatively, their work gets better. It is during their love affair that Igor's music takes on a more freeing tone. It is also during the affair that the famous perfume, Chanel No. 5 is released. The love affair quickly comes to an end when Stravinsky's wife is made aware of the affair.

The film was directed by Jan Kounen, and Chris Greenhalgh also wrote the screenplay. It was filmed in both French and English. Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky stars Mads Mikkelsen as Igor and Ann Mouglalis as Coco. It opened in theaters across the world in 2009 after the initial viewing at the Cannes Film Festival. It opened to mixed reviews. Some stated that the film has a sophisticated feel and some pivotal moments, but it is not a well developed story. This may cause viewers to keeping wanting more of what was not captured in the film. - 39815

Go See The Award Winning Film City Island

By Derrick Carney

Emmy Nominated Andy Garcia and actress Julianna Margulies portray a married couple from City Island in this 2010 movie about a couple apparently fixed in a groove of life without excitement. The movie, made in 2009, shows what a dysfunctional family of people who can't seem to bring themselves to tell even the simplest truth to one another. For example, Garcia's character, Vince Rizzo, a corrections officer by day, wants to become a Hollywood star so he's been taking acting classes no one knows about.

This dark family comedy won the coveted audience award at the 2009 famed Tribeca Film Festival where most films go to generate a buzz which in turn brings more people out to view the film when it hits the theaters. This was its first screening and critics and movie-goers both enjoyed the hilarity that came out of this charming yet smart film about the lengths families will go to in order hide the truth from one another.

Each member of this family of fibbers is hiding a deep dark secret so that the rest of the relatives will not be destroyed from a revelation of what they are doing behind everyone's back. The father in the film, and popular star of the Ocean's movies, Garcia, wants to become a Hollywood actor but doesn't dare tell his wife or family. Margulies, of televisions the Good Wife, portrays Garcia's somewhat neurotic but always nosey wife. She spends hours trying to catch him in the act of cheating.

Other family members include a daughter who is supposed to be attending collage but instead is a stripper. This character is performed by Dominik Garca-Lorido of the Lost City. The Rizzo's young, teenage son's performance is done by Ezra Miller of television's Californication and he is trying to keep his secret love and fetish regarding the family's 300 pound neighbor. The performance of the drama coach of the elder Rizzo is done by Emmy Award Winner Alan Arkin from Little Miss Sunshine. He, too, has several secrets he's keeping from the rest of those on screen.

What makes the movie interesting and the big reason for 'why today?' is because the elder Rizzo became inspired by one of his acting exercises, so much so that he decided to find his long-lost son, Tony, played by Steven Strait from 10,000 BC. Having a long-lost son who happens to be an ex-con throws fire on an already supercharged situation and of course, hilarity ensues.

One more notable character is the elder Rizzo's acting partner played by Emily Mortimer of Shutter Island. Garcia and Mortimer's chemistry is nearly perfect for this quirky little comedy but it's the portal of they married couple of Garcia and Margulies' and their constant miscommunications and love-hate banter, in typical New York style, that are real scene stealers for this movie.

The movie's namesake is a real live place just outside of the Bronx's and it is teaming with tradition. There are basically no 'outsiders' in the tiny former fishing village and parents hand down their houses from generation to generation. People outside of Manhattan and the Bronx don't know of this beautiful little community, that is, until now.

This movie came out in April of 2010 and the Blu-Ray and DVD release date is scheduled for August 24, 2010. In addition to his acting duties, Andy Garcia is also one of the many producers, joining several co-producers and executive producers. The film was written and directed, as a labor of love by Raymond De Felitta. - 39815

Some Factors Instructor's Might Have When Mixed Media Art Lessons In Los Angeles Are Offered

By Clara Berta

Mixed media art lessons in Los Angeles are provided for grownups and children too. The instructors believe that they'll enable the kids to look into their creativity by playing with different colors and textures while building a unique bit of artwork. They trained kids the best way to layer various substances and in carrying out, it provides the children the ability to engage in problem-solving simply by finding out how they can combine and anchor things.

One consideration in giving art lessons to younger artists is the color scheme of their project. Projects that use different tints and tones of the identical color are a good way to coordinate a piece. The color of the piece of artwork is important simply because it can help to bring cohesiveness to what could otherwise be seen as a mish-mash of things trapped onto a canvas panel.

There are colors mixing ideas that may be explained within the art lessons. Color mixing isn't an exact science. You can find different formulations and methods for blending and applying paint. With the correct mix of colors, kids can acquire almost any color under the sun. They could mix equivalent colors or complements, based on whether they need to accentuate a color or allow it to be more refined or fairly neutral. Tinting a color with white is a method to increase its worth, or lightness. It becomes a color into a pastel, but also dilutes the strength of the color. Toning a color with gray can make the color more neutral, reducing its intensity. They could make use of any gray, from light to dark. Like tinted colors, a palette made of colors which are all toned will hang together well. While muted, because the colors could be more neutral, they can generate exciting interplay while not having to worry about clashing colors a lot. Adding black directly to colors and shading them is a good way to reduce the significance of colors rapidly, but you need to exercise some care. Complements are colors which are correctly opposites, and are seen across from one another within the color wheel. The three basic complement sets are red-green, yellow-purple and blue-orange. Put in a complement to a color to make a nuanced neutral or to soften the effect of an extreme color, like magenta.

After the color combining tips, another thing to consider a trainer may share is the materials. Before commencing a piece of art, young children will have to think through a few things. One thing they ought to think about is what materials they have available and what they want to work with. Anything can be used in mixed media art. It may be acrylic paints, poster paints, watercolor paints, chalk pastels, oil pastels, magazines and postcards, photographs, aluminum foil, colored tissue paper, gift wrapping paper, beads, feathers, old jewelry, rhinestones and sequins, ribbon, yarn, etc.

Mixed media art lessons in Los Angeles have lots of things to offer you on top of what are already discussed above. Kids will certainly discover the unlimited possibilities that come with mixed media art - 39815

Flights To Cape Town

By Graham McKenzie

The second largest International airport in South Africa is the Cape Town International. It is the main gateway to tourism for Western Cape. Cape Town International transports nearly 7 million people at an average, every year.

If you're travelling to Cape then Cape Town International is your first point of entry. Dozens of airlines fly in and out of the Airport and is usually the first place foreign visitors see when travelling to South Africa.

The too most sightseeing spot on your itinerary should be the royal Table Mountain. From here, you can enjoy the wonderful view of land and sea. You can also enjoy spectacular sun set views from a restaurant and bar known as the Cableway Cocktail Bar. If you are interested in adventurous sports then you may try rock climbing in the Table Mountain.

Everyone should see the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens which aims to protect indigenous plants and has succeeded in growing an impressive 6000 different species.

The next thing to see would be another World Heritage site - the historically important symbol of anti-apartheid, Robben Island, named after 'seals' in Dutch. Right at the entrance to Table Bay, this island is now a museum and can be reached by a 30-minute boat ride.

Your itinerary must include a stop on the V & A Waterfront. It is famous for its bustling marketplace including attractive shops, craft markets, theatres, restaurants, and bars. Two major sightseeing spots located here are Maritime Museum and Oceans Aquarium.

Particularly well maintained, the pentagonal castle speaks of South Africa's martial history after Jan van Riebeeck's arrival here. If you are there at 10am during the week, you will see the Key Ceremony, while the Change of Guards can be witnessed at 12 o'clock. You may even be lucky, or unlucky enough to see a ghost.

Most of these are open for wine tasting and the wine makers are more than happy to ship their precious bottles to wherever it is that you may live on the globe. The cuisine in Cape Town is superb. Linger on the veranda at Constantia Uitsig, sample the best Franschoek has to offer at Quartiere Francais or nibble on a scrumptious seafood platter at On The Rocks in Blouberg.

Visitors to Cape Town should definitely take a look at Cape Point, where the Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Dias stopped in--88. It's an awe-inspiring sight and it is hard to believe how sailors crossed these dangerous waters so long ago. Additional things to see are the Dutch East India Company's Gardens, the Kalk Bay Caves, and much, much more. - 39815

Interest Soars For The Movie Brookylns Finest

By Gabriel Bush

The just released film, Brookylns Finest, is supported by an all-star cast which was lead by director Antoine Fuqua. Written by Michael C. Martin, it takes place in Brownville's Brooklyn division which is infamous for its rough and often violent way of life. This created the perfect backdrop for the focus on NYPD's 65th precinct dealings throughout the area and one dreaded night in the neighborhood well-known as the Van Dyke Housing Projects.

One of the films outstanding features is the all-star cast that provides riveting performances that keep audiences drawn into the story. Renowned actors such as Wesley Snipes, Richard Gere, Lili Taylor, Jesse Williams, Ethan Hawke, Ellen Barkin, Don Cheadle and more take viewers through the hardships and problems faced by the men and women of the NYPD on a daily basis. The story reveals the personal and professional problems of three officers who must do almost anything to survive in this precinct.

Although the movie is primarily based in Brooklyn, filming was also completed throughout the New York area including Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn itself. Through the eyes of the three principal police officers, the worst and best an urban city has to offer is presented and interwoven with complications in their daily lives which often influence decisions. The action and intrigue begin in the opening scene where a thug is shot and robbed which conversing in a car with another man. We later find out that the shooter was himself a cop.

The complexities of personal lives are revealed throughout the movie which helps viewers understand how Brooklyn's finest often walk a very thin line between right and wrong. Whether desperate for money, close to retirement, or tired of working undercover, the decisions they make are ultimately affected by the difficulties faced in their personal lives. The story climaxes when the three key Officers, who have developed their characters while on extremely different career paths, end up in the same, deadly setting at the same time.

Michale Martin grew up in the Brooklyn area where the story is based. Therefore, much of what is seen in the film is a direct reflection of personal experiences. This provides viewers with the "reality" aspect so popular today. Although the movie was made on a modest budget, the star-quality cast agreed to lesser pay in order to see it completed as it carries an important message about the challenges police officers working in this are face.

It was first viewed at the Sundance 2009 Film Festival as well as in September of the same year at the Venice Film Festival. It was here that it was picked up for distribution, but financial problems with the company delayed the release. It was only after it was acquired by Overture Films for $3 million dollars did it finally hit the big screen and what an acquisition it was. The critics found it predictable, but mass audiences seemed to disagree due to excellence in acting by the cast.

Despite the reviews, in March 2010 the film opened in the #2 position grossing over $13 million dollars. To date that has increased to over $27 million in the US with an additional $34 million earned in the international market ranking it at #11 in the "Dirty Copy" movie field which covers all movies from 1973 to the present.

For those wanting to see what all the hype is about and why it's #1 in DVD sales, it should be noted that Brookylns Finest is rated R because of drug content, violence, nudity, and sexual overtones. Despite what the critics have said it is a fast-paced, action-packed, thrill ride that will satisfy even the most discerning tastes for a real life drama. - 39815
