The Benefits Of Using A Throat Mic Setup In Paintball

By Tanner Hedlan

A throat mic is a kind of microphone that can pick up sound through sensors that are in direct contact with the neck. The design is also called a laryngophone and it can pick up the sound of your voice even if you are in a noisy surrounding such as in a crowded bar or when riding a motorbike. If you are going to use other types of microphones, the other person would not be able to hear what you were saying since it will be drowned out by the background noise.

With throat microphones, you can even talk with someone in whispers and you can use it to converse quietly with someone who is far from your position. Needless to say, the throat microphone is very important in secret conversations and military operations. This kind of microphone is also very much in use in older aircraft models, where a normal conversation is impossible because of the loud sound of its engines.

The throat mic that is available at present is much better than the older models which tend to be rough to wear. They are designed from a single element which is very comfortable for the person using them. To be able to use them with different communication tools like the two way radios, they have been designed to give a variety of outputs and frequency responses.

You can talk to another person with your hands free to do other tasks by using throat microphones. Beside the digital and analog models of portable radios, they can also be utilized for mobile phones so it is easier to communicate regularly.

A throat microphone can also be used even if you are wearing respiratory protection. Many of the breather masks, SABA SCBA, SAR and PAPR cannot be worn with a normal microphone. But with a throat mic, you can wear your respiratory protection safely since you can wear it outside of the seal of the mask. Hence, you are not going to compromise your protection. The throat mic also does not infringe on the respiratory mask's approvals and certification.
