If another Christmas at home is all too much to bear, and you long for an alternative to the usual cold turkey and roast potatoes, here are a few seasonal alternatives:
1. Aspen - Aspen, the mountain resort playground of the rich and famous makes a fantastic seasonal break. Come for the fun fair, Scotland's biggest ferris wheel, Christmas markets, show and pantomimes. Indulge in lamb, rabbit or pheasant for your Christmas dinner at one of Edinburgh's many grand hotels, and be sure to stay on a week for Hogmanay - often voted the best New Year's Eve party in the world.

As well as enjoying a true snowy winter you can visit the town's popular tourist attraction, the local reindeer farm. Here can you can feed and pet reindeer as well as other animals such as elk, moose and blacktail deer. Although be warned, they also serve reindeer in the restaurant at the end of your tour!
