I cannot concentrate a great deal today. It is all too exhilarating for words and my knowledge of English doesn't quite extend to properly describe it. The fact is that the lads have completed putting in my new kitchen and it is super. Just as we designed it, imagined it and wanted it. And there is not a Weber bbq in view. While the task has been getting along, 8 days in all to install it because it was a major job, we've been going without the discoveries that civilisation has made in the last century or so. No dishwasher, no sink, not to mention running water and, worst of all, no cooking appliances.
Everything that kept in the kitchen has been transferred into the dining room and tidied away as best we could, with the things we definitely wouldn't be requiring buried in the furthest corners or under tables or chairs. Whatever we may need filled the tops of the tables and chairs and wherever that might be close to hand. The bits we definitely would need were heaped onto dressers, sideboards and stuffed into cupboards. Lots of the cooking utensils were put into a waterproof bag and put out by the Weber bbq which, as well as a smaller set of charcoal grills would be the one opportunity we would have of cooking.
As it turned out, the climate put a stop to us using the charcoal grills as we would not be able to get the briquettes lit properly and for a couple of evenings it was too chilly for the Weber gas grills so we had to get and exist on things we could get into the microwave. These were mostly pre-cooked which I had not had in about ten years and the first Mrs Izzard even longer. And we were astonished by them. Keeping in mind that we love cooking, which is a big reason why we have had the new one (the other was the old one was literally falling to pieces) these microwave things were unbelievably horrible! They were thoroughly soulless, utterly joyless and so brightly coloured that we were not able to bring ourselves to look at the list of ingredients.
The new range, now put in, functional and wonderful is a Stoves Range with seven gas rings, two gas ovens, an electric grill and a slow cooker. I think it's great it and it's proving to be a joy to cook on as we have quickly discovered when I cooked lunch of pasta bolognese as a quick trial of the rings and the first Mrs Izzard made some Indian snacks dishes this afternoon for some friends who are popping over this evening to inspect.
We were planning to be able to serve up some home brewed beer but that isn't ready as it hasn't cleared. It's very close but just not quite there. And it's not bad for my first go, and by the time summer comes round next year, I hope to be extremely skilled at making beer and also be able to turn out a tasty sausage as well as I purchase a mincer and sausage maker. All of which may mean that when the Weber gas grills come out of the garage we should be able to throw a brilliant party when we also restore the annual do for friends and family. - 39815
