Lampun is near Chiang Mai (CM) and Lampang in Northern Thailand. Lampun is on the Ping river that is an ancient trading path for the flowers into CM and further south into the country. Lampun is a picturesque place with huge flower laden expansive valleys which are technically the foothills to the Himalayas since they share exactly the same tectonic plate. This place is just 15 miles from CM.
In the late 1100's this part of the Mon empire went under to the Lannas until it was ruled by the Burmese for two centuries. Thailand was finally created by a cooperation of many provincial leaders and the Burmese were eventually expelled from Thailand altogether.

Festivals : The most notable celebration to find out in Lampun is the Longan Fair where floats adorned with flowers are utilized to celebrate the picking of the Longan fruit (which happens to be much like a lychee). Buses are usually local buses with no air-conditioning and stop too often.
