An Overview Of The Movie Blind Fury

If you're in the mood for a good old fashioned eighties action flick and you've already seen everything with Arnold and Stallone a million times over, give Blind Fury a chance. They call Rutger Hauer the European Paul Newman, but Christopher Walken is probably a more accurate comparison. Both actors are capable of that icy coolness, where they can say sinister things that sound friendly and friendly things that sound sinister. Hauer brings that quality to his heroic role in Blind Fury, and the result is definitely one of our must see movie downloads of the eighties, especially if you're talking about cool, funny action flicks.

The story follows Hauer as a Vietnam War veteran who was abandoned overseas by his old war buddy. He wound up being taken in by a South Vietnamese village, where he was taught how to defend himself with a samurai sword, in that he could no longer reasonably operate a firearm. He returns to the United States with sword in hand to find the person who left him behind in Vietnam. Interestingly, he's not out for revenge, he's out to forgive his old friend and make things right between the two of them.

Along the way, he essentially adopts the man's son for the week and takes him on a journey to reunite with his father. It's sort of like Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman, but done as an eighties action comedy in the US. It's funny, exciting, and the blindness provides an interesting angle for the action. From the opening scene to the finale, the movie keeps coming up with interesting new ways to exploit his blindness.

Hauer is almost outclassed by the rest of the cast, including Randal Tex Cobb as Slag, the badguy's right hand man, who lives up to the name, SLAG! Slag winds up meeting a fitting end that turns out to be one of the best in the history of action movies. In fact all of the badguys get a good come uppance sooner or later, and that's really what helps to define a great action flick.

The movie really captures the best of what eighties action comedy films were all about. It's funny, the action is inventive, imaginative, and exciting, and it finds a lot of room for great character development and good storytelling, so while there's focus on humor and action, that's not all there is to it. The story is actually somewhat touching.

Ninja legend Sho Kosugi shows up towards the end for really no reason whatsoever, except to get Sho Kosugi in there. He plays a hired sword who arrives in the US from Japan in order to fight Rutger Hauer just so we can get a great fight scene in there between Hauer and a true legend of Ninja themed action movies.

You'll probably love the two redneck brothers who are constantly nagging each other and fighting, providing the real comedic drive of the movie. Sort of like throwing Abbot and Costello into the middle of an action flick.

It really is too bad that they don't really make movies like this anymore, but we can at least enjoy these movies with movie downloads. It's not one of the most well known of the eighties action flicks, but it's really one of the very best of the era. Funny, exciting, imaginative and fun. - 39815

A Review Of The Morgan Freeman Movie Se7en

By reading into an article like this one, you more than likely are hoping to learn a little more about perhaps one of the most influential films to be released in 1995, Se7en. It is pronounced seven, and through the later paragraphs of this piece you will learn a little more about the movie with a plot synopsis and some other important details that you should know to fully appreciate the film.

You are going to be fairly warned in advance, though. This article will likely contain some spoilers to the plot of this film. In order to adequately do the film any justice in discussing it, such spoilers are going to be necessary. So if you have not seen this film, the movie and its plot will be discussed in full in the later paragraphs of this article.

When you start watching this movie, you are going to be introduced to the two main characters of the piece, Detectives William Somerset and David Mills. They have recently been paired together to help Mills adjust to city detective work. Somerset is set to retire soon, so they are a great match and it is not long before they are working together on a gruesome crime scene unlike anything they have ever seen.

It involves a morbidly obese man who has been fed spaghetti until he literally burst open at the stomach, killing him. Somerset is called away to tend to another murder that was discovered, and Mills stays to round up evidence at the first. Somerset steps onto a crime scene of a powerful lawyer who was notorious for getting guilty men off for heavy compensation. Both detectives find a word at their crime scenes: Mills finds the term "GLUTTONY" and Somerset finds "GREED."

It doesn't take a lot of deduction by the detectives to determine that these crimes are relative to the seven deadly sins. So while two of them have been portrayed, there are still five crimes that are slated to occur to complete the quorum. It doesn't take long for these to rack up either, and they are not for the faint of heart.

To make matters even more obscure, the culprit, John Doe, reveals himself (even turning himself in). He offers to show the detectives Mills and Somerset to the location of the last two victims that had yet to be discovered. They are willing to play along when he agrees to give a full confession that would surely put him away. The last two victims are the last that you might have expected though.

There are powerful performances by Brad Pitt (Detective Mills) and Kevin Spacey (John Doe). Even as impressive as these performances are, they are equally as impacting as the supporting roles from Morgan Freeman (Detective Somerset) and Gwenyth Paltrow as the wife of Detective Mills, Tracy. This all star ensemble brought this chilling piece to the screen unlike anyone else could have. It was as horrific as it was an instant classic and a must-see.

So, if you wanted to learn more about Se7en, than this should have given you a good introduction to the film. While there is certainly more to appreciate about this movie, you are going to have to learn about that for yourself. So put the kids to bed, and appreciate what so many others have deemed one of the best films of 1995, and likely the nineties altogether. - 39815

Shame Is Well Worth A Look

Roger Corman directed some truly commendable films in his day, and Shame may be one of his crowning achievements. The director may be most well known for his proficiency at churning out schlocky B movies with cheap monster costumes, cute girls in their underwear and Z grade scripts, but he found time now and then to really put his heart and soul into creating more personal, meaningful films in between all the more marketable drive-in flicks. Put Shame on your queue next time you sign into your movie download service.

The film is remarkably brave, focusing on racial hatred and tension in the south. This may not sound like a big deal, and civil rights movement films have since become a genre. However, you have to consider... It's easy to make a movie about tolerance in the 1990's, filming on Hollywood sets designed to look like towns in Georgia and Alabama. Corman actually took his crew to a small southern town at the start of the movement. It's not hyperbolic at all to say that he really risked his life for this movie, as he and his team received death threats.

William Shatner turns in one of his finest performances as the charming villain, a political agent who has arrived in town for one purpose only: To incite racially motivated violence so as to sway the vote in favor of his segregationist employers. He enjoys doing this, and he uses his boyish good looks and innocent charm to deliver a villainous performance that really crawls under your skin.

The concept may have begun with Adolf Hitler. It seems odd that Corman would cast such a charismatic young man in such a seedy, nasty role as villain, but as Hitler made clear, you need charisma, you need charm, and you need a handsome face to sell ugly ideas. Shatner is just incredible in the film, and you can see exactly how he scams and cons the people of the small town to believe what they know in their hearts is not true.

Corman and his crew were actually run out of town when the local police got wise to what sort of a movie he was doing, and the last few shots he grabbed were literally filmed with the police only a few blocks away and closing in. Literally, the police were walking towards Corman at the time he was filming the last few shots, and he had to hurry up and wrap the shoot, and then pack everything in the truck and vamoose.

Corman is earning a lifetime achievement award at the Oscars in 2010, but there has been sadly little coverage of his life and times in cinema. For as much as he's contributed, Corman's Oscar is long overdue.

It's true that Corman is primarily remembered as the maker of some truly cheap B films, but that's only one aspect of what he's done for American film. Besides making some true classics like Shame, he also launched the careers of Dennis Hopper, Martin Scorsese and Jack Nicholson, to name only a few of his many efforts and gifts to the modern cinematic landscape.

If you've never bothered with Corman, start with Shame, then watch X: The Man With The X-Ray Eyes. These are two of his best, and Shame in particular is an example of what the artist is truly capable of when he's willing to take a break from his more marketable B movies and really put his heart into a film that takes courage to write, direct and release. - 39815

Riders Fend Off Ti-Cats Comeback To Win In CFL Action

It was just a week ago that the Saskatchewan Roughriders blew a big first half CFL lead to the Edmonton Eskimos en route to a 38-33 loss. On Sunday afternoon, it looked for a moment like history was repeating itself. The Riders led 23-0 at halftime before the Hamilton Tiger-Cats came roaring back in the second half. Hamilton would tie the score at 23-23 early in the fourth quarter before the hosts pulled it out with a late touchdown and field goal to win 33-23.

After the game, Roughriders coach Ken Miller talked about the importance of not losing in the same fashion in back to back weeks:

"We didn't want to do that again, "In the first half in particular it was sensational. In the third quarter we gave up some points ... but overall our defence played pretty good."

Hamilton head coach Marcel Bellefeuille indicated that there was no moral victory in coming close:

"You've got to play 60 minutes to win in the CFL, you can't play 30 minutes."

Saskatchewan ran for 214 yards, with Wes Cates becoming the first Roughrider to rush for more than 100 yards this season as he finished with 117. After the game, Cates spoke of his accomplishment:

"It was not as much for myself but more for the naysayers. Yeah I needed a big game like that to stop the rumours and stop people from talking bad about me."

Saskatchewans defensive line also starred, completely shutting down the Hamilton rushing attack. The Roughriders limited the Tiger-Cats runners to a mere 31 yards on the ground, easily improving upon their previous best performance of 114 rushing yards against.

Kevin Glenn replaced Hamilton starting QB Quinton Porter after the first quarter and finished the game 12-for-27 with 183 yards. Porter was 1-for-5 for only three yards before he was yanked.

The Tiger-Cats now have a bye week before they return to action August 29th on the road against the Edmonton Eskimos. Saskatchewan will head east to take on the CFL best Montreal Alouettes on Friday night. - 39815
