Hidden Southern California

Looking for a great place to go and have some fun, there are plenty of things to do in Southern California. The beaches offer a great relaxing atmosphere while getting some sun and enjoying the water. There are a lot of things your family can do in Southern California that don't cost a dime, but are still entertaining and unique.

The local beaches can offer fun for the family when soaking up some sun or while going in the water. Visitors of all ages can find something at the beach. Kids can play in the water, build sandcastles and explore tide pools. Grown-ups can sunbathe, read a good book or enjoy a cold drink. If you want to see what it's like to be a Californian, take surfing lessons in San Diego or Orange County. So bring your swimsuit, towel, umbrella and cooler full of drinks and snacks and enjoy a day at the seaside.

Old Town in San Diego can be a very historical journey through time; it is considered the first settlement of Europeans. There are many shops that sell a variety of different crafts as well as many other items for sale. You'll need at least a couple of hours to discover the Old Town area. If you find yourself running out of energy, stop for some tacos and a margarita before continuing on.

There are many parks in Southern California, some near the coast, others in the mountains, canyons or even in the desert. Go jogging, hiking or biking in one of these scenic locations to get the flavor of California while getting a little exercise at the same time. If you have a hobby like bird watching, be sure to bring along some binoculars to perhaps catch a look at some beautiful or exotic birds.

When visiting San Diego it can be quite an adventure to go to the local zoo. You could spend weeks exploring San Diego and Orange County alone. If your time is limited, try to see at least one park or zoo with native animals, the beach and some of the cultural heritage, like one of the beautiful Missions, which have been preserved for visitors. Southern California has a rich history, including the Spanish Missionaries, the Mexican influence and more.

Of course no visit to a far away location would be complete without sampling the local fare. California cuisine incorporates European, Mexican and Central American influences, as well as the healthy eating tendencies of many modern Californians. Asian fusion has become very popular in Southern California recently, a result of the influences of the multiple Asian cultures of people living there. For a unique and unforgettable taste there is sure to be something to make your mouth water.

San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles offer many museums with themes including history, art, science and more. Wander these museums at your own pace or take a guided tour to learn as much as you can. Finding out about the history and art of California by visiting art galleries is sure to be delightful for art lovers. Whatever your preference when it comes to taking a glance at the past you can find it.

Southern California offers a huge variety of fun and educational things to do that are sure to hold the attention of visitors of all ages. The beaches offer results and relaxation while in the city you can find art or fine dining. For a trip back in history to discover how California was settled, visit a few of the local museums. Whether you are from out of town or a local you can find a lot of things to do in your free time in the great state of California. - 39815
